General Interest.

1. Rev Wm King. The Friend of the Slaves. Born Nov 11, 1812. In Londonderry Ireland. Died Jan 5 1895. At Chatham Ontario, Aged 82 Years Note: New plaque has an error. He died Jan. 5, 1895 as the Crypt's cover confirms.

Rev King was instrumental in the founding of the Buxton Settlement. When he found he could not free his slaves where he lived in the South he came North so he could free them. Often people ask us if their remains are underground or on top of ground. So far we have not found anyone who knows.
