Map of location of many of the cemeteries in Chatham-Kent

Map of location of KNOWN cemeteries in Chatham-Kent

Instructions
1. To show locations, place cursor over dots on map below and left-click.
2. To see a list of cemeteries noted by balloons and to find a particular cemetery click the parallel horizontal bars icon on top left of map. Then click the cemetery you wish to locate. We can only do an alphabetical list of one name, so if you do not see the name that you are looking for, please look here for alternate names.
3. To make cemeteries very close together more visible and easy to separate out, zoom in on the map, and then drag to different locations.
4. Former burial spots are everywhere. Along rivers, and railroads, and old trails. In towns and on farms. It is important that EVERYONE realizes that people have lived here for at least 11,000 years, and even many "European" graves are now lost and can never be found or identified again. We can only identify those that are known now.

The map below uses javascript and pop-ups.

Map Legend

Red Balloon signifies Cemetery with monuments or designated area meaning that it's location can be easily identified by visitors.
Blue Balloon indicates a Cemetery destroyed by being plowed down, lost in a bush with no monuments now showing, etc. Often these cemeteries cannot be found even if you are standing over them without special research or equipment.
Brown Balloon indicates a Historic, or modern First Nations Cemetery.
Black Balloon indicates a cemetery close to Chatham-Kent that probably contains many burials from here simply due to it's close proximity.
Green Balloon indicates monument(s) only with NO burials or area where ALL documentation proves that all burials were removed.
Please Note that digging should never be done in any of the areas marked by location balloons with the exception of the last class, without further archaeological research!

NOTE! GPS locations are in degrees and decimals of degrees. Please see notice directly below the map.

NOTE! GPS locations are in degrees and decimals of degrees. If you enter them into a unit calibrated for degrees, minutes, and seconds, you will go to a totally incorrect location! For instance a location of 42 degrees 35 minutes and 310 seconds N by 82 degrees 10 minutes and 77.2 seconds W is actually 42.5885 N by 82.17953 W on the decimal scale. In order to avoid East and West, you can actually use the latter as 42.5885 -82.17953 on Google Maps. If you use the incorrect format on your GPS you will land up half way to Lake Erie from Chatham instead of the correct location in Dresden, or else you may land up in Sarnia on 402 near the river bridge.
