History of the First Union Methodist Church Cemetery

Also called African Union Cemetery

With Thanks to Bryan Prince

The First Union Methodist Church Cemetery.

Bryan Prince tells us...

Quote "The abandoned cemetery in the small treed lot with a small creek meandering through on the south side of the Middle Line just entering South Buxton if coming from the east was the First Union Methodist church and cemetery. (Some material in the area erroneously referred to it as “The Freeman cemetery”.) Charles and Abigail Wood sold this to the church trustees on March 19, 1859. (It is part of north part lot 11 concession 12). There are now only 3 stones that are visible but I believe more could be unearthed." End of Quote

Caution! Whenever entering any private property, do so only with permission. Today, the adjacent farm owner mistakenly believes this lot belongs to him.
