The MacVicar Cemetery History

With Thanks to Craig Miller, and Barry Forsyth

There would be absolutely NO reason to reword the material on the document below by David Forsyth Sr. Finding a document such as this is so uplifting after finding so many cemeteries with almost NO known history today. Please note the source of the document at the top of the page. David Forsyth Sr was the Grandfather of Barry Forsyth who still farms in the area today (2012).

Barry mentioned helping to dig graves. When I asked about digging in winter he mentioned taking axes and picks over to break through the frost. We need to all remember what these folks went through not only digging the grave, but breaking through the newly frozen ground again on the edge to back fill. Also once through the sand, it is apparently of such consistency that it can cave in easily. So frames are used to keep the shaft from caving. He mentioned how they used to always have the soil on the edge of the grave shaft ready to be filled back in when the service was over. However, now more modern methods are used.
