Some History of The Saint George's Anglican Cemetery

With Thanks to Lila McFadden

St George's Anglican Cemtery is a very early cemetery with it's roots going back to early times. There was originally an Anglican Church right on the property, and it was located right underneath where the large statue is today in the early section of the cemetery. We are told that a replacement Church was opened in Comber in 1887 so it is likely that the Church on the Cemetery site was closed that same year and it was likely torn down only shortly after. The new Church in Comber is called the Church of the Ascension. Today the Cemetery is still private. i.e. it is NOT ran by the City of Chatham-Kent. It is actually administered by a local board under the authority of the Anglican Diocese of Huron.
